Our Review of PetPremium
PetPremium has been in operation since 2013. From its base in New York City, it provides accident-only and comprehensive coverage for cats and dogs for customers across all 50 states, with preventative care options available at additional cost.
Considered one of the country’s premier pet insurance providers and boasting an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, PetPremium also enjoys hundreds of positive reviews from its customers as well as offering a wide variety of pet care content on its website.
PetPremium’s website, however, can be a challenge to navigate and obtaining specific policy details beyond the generic quotes and coverages are hampered by broken links and hard-to-find links that are often buried within other pages.
Breadth of Coverage
PetPremium provides wide ranging coverage for cats and dogs, but similar to other providers of its type, has no provisions for exotics.
PetPremium appears to be available for old and young pets alike, with the standard 8 week minimum age applicable to all pets. However, there does not appear to be any specific policies or clauses that are easily accessible on the website and may only be available if users submit their email addresses for a specific quote. Further research reveals that there are no age limits on the Accidents-Only plan, with Total Coverage plans available to dogs 12 years and under and cats 14 years and under.
PetPremium’s coverage extends to a wide range of both cat and dog breeds. As with many national providers of its size, PetPremium offers coverage to all states, with variations in coverage policies depending on state laws (most notably California).
PetPremium divides their offerings between Accidents-Only and a more comprehensive Total Coverage. Both plans offer up to 90% reimbursement with deductibles ranging from $100 to $500 and an annual limit of $2,500 to $20,000. Preventative care riders are available at additional cost.

Accessibility of Products
PetPremium’s rates begin as low as $10 per month, with user-specific rates available should they choose to submit for an email quote.
Payments can be issued via credit card or automatic check withdrawal, with no options listed for mobile pay or other online or electronic payment methods. The website does not show which major credit cards are accepted for payment.
In terms of changing or switching plans, PetPremium’s FAQ only says that customers may be “eligible” to change their coverage plan and options. Customers must call their toll-free line to speak to a representative to make those changes.
PetPremium does not appear to offer any group discounts according to their website.
The website is fairly transparent with its generic pricing ranges. PetPremium’s quote function provides a good initial rate starting as low as $10 per month, with more specific details available once the users sign up using their email addresses. The Coverage Plans page displays ranges of annual caps and deductibles, but in order to get a specific quote for their own pet, users must submit their email addresses to have a sample policy emailed to them.
While it is easy to access the basic generic quotes and policy details, at the time of access for this report, links to download sample PDFs of both the Accident-Only and Total Coverage plans were broken. The Quick Link to the FAQ was also difficult to find and, at the time of access for this report, was buried within the Insurance Center page.
Ease of Use
The mobile site for PetPremium is easily accessible and loads very quickly with the same ease of access as the desktop site.
PetPremium is open with their pricing, providing an instant generic quote within seconds from the “Get a Quote” button as well as providing details on their coverage limitations, coverage types, and terms of service. PetPremium features their customer reviews in a very prominent “What Our Customers Say” section on the landing page that shows a 4.8/5 positive rating out of 640 reviews.
PetPremium features prominent and visible “Get A Quote” buttons on the landing page and a floating panel at the top of the site offering users to start a quote at any time during their visit. Once the user enters their details, an instant starting quote appears to the right of the data entry fields, showing a starting rate within seconds, with a subsequent option to have further detailed quotes emailed to the user on the next page. However, users must then submit their email addresses to receive their customized quotes.
Whether on mobile or web, PetPremium has a portal that paying customers can use to submit and manage their claims. They offer 100% paperless claims submission.
PetPremium’s online portal allows clients to download claims forms in PDF for submission via email or fax. The portal also allows them to manage their profiles, number of pets, pending claims, and so on.
Overall, while PetPremium is considered a premier pet insurance company in the U.S, compared to the websites of other providers in its weight class, PetPremium’s site is fairly average, somewhat outdated compared to its competitors, and sometimes difficult to navigate.
